TYPICAL PROCESS
1. CONSULTATION
We start with a consultation to discuss your project and provide you with a quote. To get a quote, we’ll either need to visit the location in person; or we’ll need photos of the space and more information about the wall, including information about the surface, ground and surrounding area.
2. DESIGN
In order to provide a final quote, we’ll need the design. If you have a design, great! We’ll paint it beautifully. If you need a design, no problem! Our team will create an original design perfect for your brand and messaging.
3. WALL MOCK-UP
If you have a design, but it doesn’t quite fit the wall, we’ll make it fit! We can provide wall mock-ups for the desired space. We can also adjust your design to fit the wall. Further, we can show you a photo of the wall with your design in place, so you can see the completed mural before any paint touches the wall.
4. PRE-PRODUCTION
Once the design is finalized, we’ll get to work in our studio. Our pre-production team prepares the painting plan, references, hand-mixed colors, giant to-scale transfers, stencils, materials/equipment and scaffolding/lifts, so our artists are ready to hit the ground running once we’re on site.
5. PREP-WORK
Depending on the wall’s surface, we may need to do some prep-work, including repairs, power-washing, sanding, priming and/or flat painting. The top coat is only as good as the base coat, so we want to start with a great “canvas.”
6. PAINTING
Once on-site, our team of artists gets muraling! We transfer the design’s outline onto the wall for remarkable accuracy, and no wonky results! Then we use our years of artistic skill to recreate your design by hand and brush. This is quite the scene and tends to draw in crowds excited to be part of the experience. We can even capture time-lapse footage for other branding efforts. And we share photos for your approval, to ensure you’re 100% happy with the results.
FAQs FOR ADVERTISING MURALS
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PAINT A MURAL?
Since we are a team of artists, we get the job done quickly. The actual painting typically takes anywhere from one to four days, but this can vary depending on the design, size and most importantly — you’re deadline!
CAN YOU PAINT ANYTHING?
Yes! Hattas Studios specializes in 100% custom work, from portraits and animals, to products and still life, to landscapes and cityscapes, to graphics and signage. We can also paint in any style, from realism to impressionism to abstract to cartoons. If you can imagine it, we can paint it!
WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A DESIGN?
No worries! We offer in-house design services. We just need some input from you regarding your goals, concept, and branding style. We’ll collaborate with you to ensure the design is attention-grabbing, beautiful and on-brand.
CAN YOU PAINT ON ANY SURFACE?
Where there’s a will there’s a way! We can paint on just about any surface type, including stucco, metal, glass, wood, stone, etc. We can paint over any texture, from slick or smooth, to rough or dimensional. We can paint at any scale, whether it be a small interior wall or the entire facade of a building. With the help of scaffolding or lifts, we will get it done!
WHAT TYPE OF PAINT DO YOU USE?
We use high-quality, water-based, exterior paints for bright results that last a long time.
HOW CAN I PREVENT GRAFFITI?
If your work is intended to be up for a long time, or is in a location that is subject to tagging, we recommend a protective anti-graffiti coating on your mural. This not only helps prevent UV damage/fading, but can also help with removing spray paint, markers, etc.
ARE YOU PROFESSIONAL?
After 20 years and thousands of murals, our team breaks all the negative artist stereotypes. We are commercial artists who believe you actually can’t rush art! All of our team members are employed, which means we are reliable, predictable and professional. We take pride in our processes which ensure cleanliness, great communication and no surprises. We are licensed (#995544), insured, bonded and lift-certified. You can take comfort knowing you are in very talented and capable hands.
CAN I MAKE CHANGES AFTER APPROVING THE DESIGN?
No problem. We understand things change, and will work with you to make sure any change orders go quickly and smoothly. It’s important to note that your custom painting has been priced based on the estimated time needed to complete the artwork at the level of detail determined by the agreement and budget. In some cases, the same design can be painted at lower detail or higher detail. So we will agree to meet at a level that is suited to the project, allowing the appropriate amount of time to complete the work on budget. If more detail or changes are requested which add more time to the project, we will provide a quote for the additional work needed.
DO I NEED TO BE ONSITE TO OVERSEE THE PROCESS?
While seeing the mural being painted is fun to watch, you do not need to be there to oversee the process. We’ll keep you updated with progress photos, and will send final photos for your approval. We can even
capture time-lapse video, so you can see it develop from start to finish. Plus you can use the footage for other marketing efforts. It’s quite the crowd-pleaser!
HOW DO YOU DETERMINE PRICING?
Mural Advertisements are typically charged per square foot, at a rate based on the design’s level of detail. To determine the level of detail, we consider the amount of elements in the design, and their complexity. You could imagine painting a realistic portrait of Mona Lisa on a wall would take more time then a simple outline of Mona Lisa on the same wall. And if we added 20 of Mona’s friends and an elaborate jungle background with text and logos, the same wall would take much more time to paint. We also consider that some areas of the design may have low detail, and other areas may have high detail. In this case, the overall level of detail might be considered medium detail, depending on the design. Other design considerations are the number of colors, patterns, gradations, etc. In addition to the design, we also evaluate any other factors that might add time or cost, including accessibility, height, obstructions, surface texture, ground type, location type, repairs, prep-work, timeline, etc. In short, the cost comes down to time, materials and equipment.
